Barbershop and Beauty Parlor Outreach Campaign

An African American Outreach Campaign Developed by Abraham Scott and Ben Hubby

Dean outreach to local Barbershops and Beauty Parlors

What to do:

Go to the streets in your town with the greatest concentration of barbershops and beauty shops. One way to find them is to go to Yahoo.com, click on "Yellow Pages", click "change location" on right hand side, type in your town and state and then type in "Barber shop" or "Beauty Parlor" in the search field.

The pitch is short and sweet. "Hi everybody, we are trying to send George Bush back to Texas and we're working for Howard Dean for President because we think he's the man to do the job. We need your help and the help of your friends to take our country back block by block". While chit chatting and getting feedback, we distribute fliers and we ask the manager/owner or whoever is in charge if we can leave extra fliers to be distributed by him.

Ideally these shops would be re-visited many times to update supplies and encourage the barbers/beauticians to help us.

How to do it:

1. Make 100 copies of the Barbershop/Beauty Parlor Flyer. Copying these in black and white is fine.

2. Wear your Dean button.

3. Go to the beauty parlor or barbershop.

4. Talk with the everyone saying: "Hi everybody, we are trying to send George Bush back to Texas and we're working for Howard Dean for President because we think he's the man to do the job. We need your help and the help of your friends to take our country back block by block". Keep it short and sweet.

5. While chit chatting and getting feedback, distribute fliers and we ask the manager/owner or whoever is in charge if we can leave extra fliers to be distributed by him.

6. Email us with how things went and suggestions for improving the campaign. We'd like to post your success stories.
