Unemployment Centers Outreach Campaign

Developed by Lanya Shapiro

Dean outreach to local Unemployment Centers

What to do:

Go to your local unemployment center and share information about Howard Dean. These folks have been hurt by George Bush’s economy so they should be ripe for a candidate with a plan and a record! People often wait around at unemployment centers – why not give them something to read while they wait?

Stand outside in front of the center and talk with people going in and out, saying: "Hi, I’d like to see George Bush on unemployment. I’m working for Howard Dean for President because I think he's the man to do the job. We need your help and the help of your friends on February 3rd to take our country back block by block." Keep it short and sweet.

It would be great to have someone at every unemployment center every weekday until the primary!

How to do it:

1. Locate the Unemployment Center in your county. Go to the South Carolina Employment Security Commission and click on your county.

2. Make 100 copies of the Jobs Flyer. Copying these in black and white is fine.

3. Print out that County’s election commission phone and address for those who aren’t sure where they vote.

4. Go to the unemployment center, wearing your Dean button or shirt.

5. Stand outside the center and talk with people going in and out, saying: "Hi, I’d like to see George Bush on unemployment. I’m working for Howard Dean for President because I think he's the man to do the job. We need your help and the help of your friends on February 3rd to take our country back block by block." Keep it short and sweet.

6. Offer the flyer and ask if they want to take extra flyers for their friends (and bumper stickers if you have them).

7. Make sure people know to vote on February 3rd!

8. Email us with how things went and suggestions for improving the campaign. We'd like to post your success stories.
